    A380

    A380

There are a lot of airports in the world that are putting big money into their infrastructures to accomodate these aircraft. There is a major camp in the airline business that thinks that massive aircraft are going to be the only way the companys are going to survive. Of course, I think they are dead wrong. The smaller commuter lines are going to be the wave of the future (at least in the US anyways). We shall see.

Didn't someone a while ago post a comparisson between the A380 and the Spruce Goose? It was still smaller than the Spruce Goose which should give you a bit of insight into what Howard Hughes really accomplished.

    Mil Heavy-Lift Helicopters

    Mil Heavy-Lift Helicopters

    * The Mil organization began work on their first heavy-lift helicopter in 1954, when the OKB was ordered to design a rotorcraft that could carry a payload of more than 11 tonnes (25,000 pounds) over a distance of 240 kilometers (150 miles). The big rotorcraft was intended for both commercial and military service. The Soviet civil airline organization, Aeroflot, wanted to use the machine for operations in trackless backwoods environments, particularly Siberia, and the military wanted it to lift rocket launchers and other heavy weapons.

The result was the huge "Mi-6", which was given the NATO codename "Hook". Five Mi-6 prototypes were produced, the first flying in the fall of 1957 with test pilot Rafail Kaprelian at the controls. The Mi-6 is believed to have entered production in 1960, with about 860 built to end of production in 1981.

The Mi-6 was powered by twin Soloviev D-25V (TB-2BM) turboshaft engines with 4,100 kW (5,500 SHP) each. Access panels to the engines were opened and closed hydraulically, and were sturdy enough to be used as work platforms by maintenance crews. The Mi-6 featured a huge five-bladed main rotor with metal blades, and a four-bladed tail rotor with blades made of plastic-impregnated wood built around steel spars. The rotor system was originally fitted with an electrothermal de-icing system, but this was replaced in early production with an alcohol-based scheme.

A Big Ship needs a Very Big Engine
The internals of this engine are a bit different than most automotive engines.
The top of the connecting rod is not attached directly to the piston. The top of the connecting rod attaches to a "crosshead" which rides in guide channels. A long piston rod then connects the crosshead to the piston.
I assume this is done so the the sideways forces produced by the connecting rod are absorbed by the crosshead and not by the piston. Those sideways forces are what makes the cylinders in an auto engine get oval-shaped over time.

To briefly answer your question, RWD big body luxury sedans, usually the flagship model or one of the top models. In the US, its one of these following cars styled in a certain way
    Infiniti Q45, M35, M45
    Lexus GS300/400/460, LS400/430/460

Its very similiar to Euro styling, the cars are slammed with expensive nice fitting wheels. Its about brand whoring, no knockoffs of cheap parts. Curtains, woodgrain interior tables are some times found in the interiors.

Other big body sedans could pull off the stlye like the Sclass, 740li, Vanden Plas, A8 to name a few but just like you wouldnt call a Lexus LS460 a Euro car, you wouldnt call an A8 a vip car. It can be "vip styled" just like a LS460 can be "euro styled."

A recurring theme at Gizmag in recent times has been the growing accessibility of the recreational sports aircraft, with manufacturers offering increasingly versatile and user-friendly designs combined with falling price points. Like the , the ICON A5, which was officially unveiled last week in Los Angeles, is a case in point. Powered by a 100hp Rotax 912 ULS engine achieving an estimated maximum speed of 105 kts (120 mph) and a range of 300 nm, the amphibious, two-seat, composite carbon fiber plane features a sportscar inspired cockpit and retractable landing gear for flying off land and water, but the standout element is the folding wing design which allows the plane to be towed on the road like a speed boat and stored at home rather than paying for space at an airport.

The World's first flying hotel - The Hotelicopter

The double deck Airbus A380 has set new high standards for luxury accommodation in the air but, unless you can afford to deck out your own A380 as a private jet, the Hotelicopter concept aims to top this airborne opulence by equipping a four story converted heavy lift aircraft with 18 luxuriously-appointed room hotels. Modeled on the Soviet Mil V-12, the largest helicopter ever built, of which only two prototypes were built in the 1960s, the Hotelicopter company would like us to believe they purchased one of these prototypes in 2004 with the Hotelicopter now ready for its maiden flight in June 26th. We're not sure that we do, but we like the concept.

    Boeing 797

    Boeing 797
Boeing is preparing a new 1000-passenger airplane. The new Boeing 797 with it's Blended-Wing-Body (BWB) design, was designed in Cooperation with NASA. The new airplane is a response to Airbus's A380 which can carry up to 555 passengers (in three-class configuration), and up to 853 passengers in a full economy configuration.

The 797, with a 265ft wingspan, has a 3ft longer wingspan than the A380, which has a wingspan of 262ft. The 797's BWB design has several big advantages, such as the lift-to-drag ratio, which will have a 50% increase over the A380, combined with the 25% less overall weight than the A380, the 797 is expected to have about 33% efficiency over the Airbus's A380. The BWB shape also decreases the stress on the air frame, and reduces turbulence, therefor increasing the body rigidity and efficiency. Link>>>>>
